Tischtennis-Bundesliga (TTBL): battle of the champions at the final on 30/06/2024

1. FC Saarbrücken TT face Borussia Düsseldorf once again at the Liebherr TTBL final in Frankfurt

The last three years have seen the TTBL’s two top teams, 1. FC Saarbrücken TT and Borussia Düsseldorf, regularly meeting to complete for the title in the season finale. Each time, the record-breaking champions from North Rhine-Westphalia with their star player – former world number one, 20-time European champion and Olympic and world championship medallist Timo Boll – were able to emerge victorious.

The longstanding club from Düsseldorf have achieved an incredible 33 championship titles since they were founded, whilst the Saarland team has won one so far – in 2020. This number is important, because the difference in title totals says little about the two teams’ performance. Borussia Düsseldorf have been playing in the top TTBL league continually since 1960, whilst 1. FC Saarbrücken only joined it in 2009. Both teams are strong and experienced with nerves of steel. The Saarbrücken players won the ETTU Champions League title in 2023, and most recently in April 2024. Their opponents: Borussia Düsseldorf.

The Düsseldorf players and the 1. FCS TT team with their stars Patrick Franziska and Darko Jorgic know each other well and understand their opponents’ strengths and weaknesses, with huge mutual respect on both sides. Fantastic matches with thousands of spectators await when the current undisputed giants of German table tennis face each other in Frankfurt on Sunday.
