For more than a decade the 1. Badminton Club Saarbrücken-Bischmisheim has been committed to competitive sport in the state capital of Saarbrücken, in both active and youth sport disciplines. The club has won countless titles and championships on a regional, national and international level, and is hungry for more.

By organising the Welt Gold Grand Prix tournament the HYLO® Open in the Saarlandhalle Saarbrücken, the club has (after two decades of intensive work) created a significant event in the Saar-Lor-Lux region and established it as one of the best in the world.

The HYLO® Open is held every year in early November. In recent years it has consistently taken place in the Saarland Halle in Saarbrücken. Further information is available here: www.hylo-open.de

1. BCB plays in the 1. Badminton-Bundesliga, 2. Badminton-Bundesliga and Regionalliga (the top three leagues).

A badminton ball is called a shuttlecock. Both natural and artificial shuttlecocks are available.

The main difference between the two is that the latter is a leisure activity and the former is a competitive sport. In leisure badminton, the aim is to keep the ball in the air for as long as possible. In competitive badminton, players play for points in sets.

The game of badminton owes its name to the country estate of the Duke of Beaufort in the county of Gloucestershire in England. This estate bears the name Badminton House, and it is here that the game was introduced by the British colonial officer in 1872. The Duke of Beaufort brought the game back from Pune in India.
