Saarlouis Hornets

The Saarlouis Hornets are the largest and most successful baseball and softball club in Saarland. After being founded in 1992, it then took nine years until they were first promoted to the 1. Bundesliga. By this point, they were already playing at ‘In den Fliesen’ ballpark, which is still the Saarlouis Hornets’s home today. After being relegated for financial reasons in 2010, the young, newly formed team under coach and founding member Tom Gapp made their way from the club league back through to the top division in just five years.

After a total of 13 years in the Bundesliga, the Saarlouis Hornets are currently in the 2. Bundesliga. Since the upheaval in 2021, the club has been led by a young board and has seen a steady rise in membership numbers. As a result, all of the Hornets’ teams – youth, men’s and softball – are represented in leagues.

The Hornets are also passionate about club work off the pitch. In recent years, they have modernised the ballpark and set up a high-quality livestream. This positive development will be continued over coming years, in terms of both sport and structures.

As an up-and-coming sport, we are particularly grateful to HYLO® and URSAPHARM for their years of support. Thanks to joint events such as the HYLO® home opener, we have been able to present our sport to a wide audience and further promote the development of our club. We are looking forward to continuing this together with HYLO® in the future.

Saarlouis Hornets FAQs

Nothing – we have something to suit every skill level (see training times). We welcome everyone, from novices through to top athletes. Don’t worry about knowing the rules, we will get you up to speed!

You can of course try a taster training session for free. Just come along and we will find the right thing for you. You do not need to bring anything part from a drink and sports clothing.

Tickets are available on the gate and in advance online. Children and young people aged up to 15 can enter for free.

Our modern ballpark, built in 1996, consists of two fields: the large baseball field right by the entrance and the nearby softball and student field. To ensure perfect training conditions for the teams, there is a roofed batting cage with two tunnels and a ball launcher, as well as two bullpens. The modernised spectator area offers two large stands with seats, two small stands, and other seating facilities in a comfortable beer-garden atmosphere. Our ballpark is rounded out by our modern clubhouse with its own catering, available on match days.

Children can join our tee-ball team from the age of four. The youth section has two age categories (9-12 and 13-15 years). Women’s softball starts at 14 and men’s baseball at 16. There are no upper age limits – you are never too old to play baseball.

The Saarlouis Hornets baseball field is at St. Nazairer Allee 12 in Saarlouis. The route to the baseball facility is signposted and heads over a St. Nazairer Allee junction straight to the big car park by our clubhouse. SSV Saarlouis and the Rocklands climbing centre are close by.
