1. FCS Tischtennis Champions League winners once again

1. FC Saarbrücken Tischtennis celebrated historic success in the Champions League final on Easter Monday (1 April 2024). At the final-four tournament for the elite crown, in front of an enthusiastic crowd at the Saarlandhalle in Saarbrücken, FCS TT defended their Champions League title and secured the club’s second ever win of this competition.

Semi-final against TTC Neu-Ulm

The semi-final on Easter Sunday saw FCS TT facing TTC Neu-Ulm. Romanian player Eduard Ionescu, just 19 years old, impressed with a win over Quadri Aruna of Nigeria, ranked 191 in the world. Match-winner Darko Jorgic secured a 3:2 victory in the deciding fifth set, and with it FCS’s entry to the final.

Final against Borussia Düsseldorf

FCS Tischtennis faced their long-term rivals Borussia Düsseldorf in front of nearly 2,500 spectators in Saarbrücken’s Saarlandhalle.

The final game was memorable and exciting. In the fourth set of the final singles match between Jorgic and Düsseldorf’s Swedish player Anton Källberg, Jorgic had his back to the wall at 1:2 and 8:10 down, but was able to harness all of his skill to still win 3:2.

Defending the title with a 3:2 win over Düsseldorf was an overwhelming moment for the team. FCS manager Erwin Berg lifted the Champions League trophy aloft, and celebrations went through the roof.

With this title, 1. FC Saarbrücken Tischtennis have added a new chapter to their club’s history and proven that they are among the best in Europe.
