Success and top positions for HYLO® athletes in national title competitions
The Finals 2023 Rhein-Ruhr event is over. The fourth year of this multi-sport event offered spectacular sport and a series of top performances in summery conditions to a delighted audience over four days from 6 to 9 July 2023. More than 210,000 spectators in Düsseldorf, Duisburg, Kassel and Berlin, in both sporting venues and out on the roads, enjoyed a fantastic four-day multi-sport event. Germany’s elite athletes crowned their German champions in 18 different sports.
Deutscher Turner-Bund ermittelt Deutsche Meister im Gerätturnen
The gymnasts of the German Gymnastics Association traditional crown their German champions for combined and individual events at the Finals event. Across four days in front of more than 12,500 spectators, the elite athletes of the German gymnastics team showcased the best of the best in German gymnastics at the PSD BANK DOME in Düsseldorf. Astonishing newcomers and familiar champions all provided countless exciting and emotional moments.
Elisabeth Seitz was crowned 2023 female German combined event champion. The 2022 European Champion on the uneven bars has now secured her 25th German Championship, along with another uneven bars title. Spectators were also delighted to see a comeback by Saarland native Pauline Schäfer-Betz, who went home with three medals under her belt in the form of a gold on the balance beam and bronzes in the uneven bars and combined event. Among the men, Pascal Brendel became 2023 German combined champion for the first time after an exciting duel with Nils Dunkel.

The results of the men’s apparatus finals offered some fantastic surprises for Saarland gymnastics. At the Finals 2023, 18-year-old European junior champion and recently crowned multiple German junior champion Daniel Mousichidis demonstrated his exceptional talent and skill, winning two gold medals in his first senior-level German Championship. The talented Saarland native impressed on both the floor and the pommel horse against strong competition. The strong results achieved by the young bucks of TG Saar were rounded out on the Sunday by Maxim Kovalenko, who won silver on the vault, and Gabriel Eichhorn, the new German runner-up on the horizontal bar.

HYLO® Team Saar erfolgreich bei den Finals 2023 Rhein-Ruhr
The Finals 2023 event saw the third race of the Triathlon-Bundesliga season on the Saturday (8 July 2023), during which the German individual title for the sprint distance was also awarded. The triathlon competition took place in the magnificent setting of Medienhafen Düsseldorf and ended in the Landtagswiese. The first two places were taken by HYLO® Team Saar. The stage winner was Lasse Nygaard-Priester, who also secured the German Championship for the spring distance. Tim Hellwig, who began the race with the fastest swimming time and had to serve a ten-second time penalty, came in second 17 seconds behind teammate Nygaard-Priester. The exceptional performance by the Saarland team was rounded out by Valentin Wernz in fifth and Chris Ziehmer in eleventh. Jaspar Ortfeld finished in 43rd place. With a fantastic stage win, HYLO® Team Saar secured second place in the league table and clawed back a point towards title favourites EJOT Team Buschhütten. On the Friday (7 July 2023), HYLO® Team Saar initially began the championship with the mixed team relay. Thanks to a blend of youth and experience, Chris Ziehmer, Svenja Thoes, and the two 15-year-olds Henri Malcharek and Lene Marlin Löwe achieved a solid eighth place. The squad athletes of HYLO® Team Saar are now already turning their attentions to the next highlight of the season, the Triathlon World Championships in Hamburg. The Saarland team is hoping to put up a good fight among the title and podium contests at the ‘HAMBURG WASSER World Triathlon Sprint & Relay Championships’ from 13 to 16 July.

1. FC Saarbrücken Tischtennis wird Deutscher Vizemeister 2023
The Tischtennis Bundesliga (TTBL) final was also on the programme of this multi-sport event in Rhine-Ruhr. On Sunday (1 July 2023), the season’s two best teams met in the TTBL final at Castello in Düsseldorf to compete for the 2022/23 German Championship title. This was a repeat meeting between the long-term rivals 1. FC Saarbrücken Tischtennis, captained by Patrick Franziska, and Timo Boll’s Borussia Düsseldorf. Following their recent Champions League triumph over the Düsseldorf team, the Saarland players were unfortunately unable to achieve the double. In front of 2700 enthusiastic spectators, the record-holding defending champions Borussia Düsseldorf gained revenge for their lost Champions League with a 3-1 victory and were crowned the 2023 German Champions. As the German Championship runners-up and with the first Champions League in the club’s history, 1. FCS TT have offered a fantastic performance this season worthy of much respect and many congratulations.

At the track and field competition in Kassel, Johannes Vetter unfortunately had to withdraw from the German Championships last-minute due to injury. We would like to wish the 2017 world javelin champion a quick return to competitive form.
Discus thrower Daniel Jasinski, also back from a break due to injury, finished in an encouraging fifth place at the German Championships in Kassel as part of the Finals 2023, a good start for his competitive practice to qualify for the upcoming World Championships.
The next Finals event will be held from 31 July to 3 August 2025 in the Saxon state capital of Dresden. This mega sporting event will not take place in 2024 due to the Olympic Games in Paris and the postponement at short notice of the European Athletics Championships in Rome.
