Battle of the promoted teams in the URSAPHARM arena

On Sunday, SV Elversberg face their fellow promoted team SV Wehen Wiesbaden. Both teams have a secure position in the middle of the table, although Wiesbaden are currently faltering slightly.

SV Wehen Wiesbaden and SV Elversberg have a lot in common from a sporting perspective: both teams were promoted to the second division last season, and began this season well. After 23 days of play, Wehen Wiesbaden are in 13th place in the table with a strong 27 points, and SVE have a total five points higher to put them in tenth place. SVE won the first leg in Hesse 2:0. On Sunday, the aim is for the club’s current heights – although recently interrupted by an avoidable loss to Hamburger SV – to be rewarded with points once again. Because after this latest game, Horst Steffen sounded genuinely unhappy with his players’ performance for the first time ever: ‘We made too many avoidable mistakes, so we did not deserve any points.’

Now the Wiesbaden team is coming to the URSAPHARM arena with a bit of pressure on them – because Wehen Wiesbaden have not had a fantastic run on away pitches so far, chalking up a meagre eleven points. The visitors have been waiting four games for a three-point win, and their gap from the relegation spots is lessening. SVWW’s coach Markus Kauzcinski expects an open and above all offensive game on Sunday: ‘I think this will be an equally matched game, with lots of offensive play and good football.’ The fans are hoping for the same.
