Bundesliga home season kick-off for 1. FCS Tischtennis

Friday (1 September 2023) marks the first home game of the new season for 1. FC Saarbrücken Tischtennis in the Tischtennis Bundesliga (TTBL). The Saarland team will be facing ASV Grünwettersbach, who finished in fifth place last season, in the Joachim-Deckarm-Halle at 7 p.m.

The team from Saarbrücken already had a successful start to the new 2023/24 TTBL season last Sunday (27 August 2023): in an away game to begin the season, 1. FCS Tischtennis were able to claim a magnificent 3:0 victory over TTC Bergneustadt in Bergisches Land. New arrival Cedric Meissner celebrated a successful debut and the first point for his new home in his first game for the Saarland team, beating Frenchman Romain Ruiz by three sets to two. Darko Jorgic then squarely beat Belgian player Adrien Rassenfosse 3:0. ‘Capitano’ Patrick Franziska contributed the third point of the 3:0 victory with his 3:1 win against Benedikt Duda.

FCS fans will have to wait a little longer for top Japanese player Yuto Muramatsu’s first appearance. This new signing from league competitors 1. FSV Mainz 05 attracted attention last season with the second best balance sheet in the federal league (21:5). He will be unable to appear in the upcoming home game due to a bruised elbow, so 19-year-old Rumäne Eduard Ionescu will be completing the lineup of new arrivals. The team headed up by Saarbrücken coach Wang Zhi also includes Cedric Nuytink of Belgium. Czech player Tomas Polansky and Japanese competitor Takuya Jin have left the club.

The 2023 Champions League winners and current championship runners-up and cup runners-up are looking to build on last season’s outstanding performances in the new season, and as a minimum reach the final playoffs or final tournaments in all three competitions – especially as the final four of Europe’s most prestigious competition will be held in Saarbrücken.

The draw for the 2023/24 Champions League group stage secured a killer match for Saarbrücken in the form of AS Pontoise Cergy Tennis de Table from France. Their second group opponent will be determined after the qualification at the end of September. The CL season is likely to begin in mid-October. The team from Saarland already has their second-round opponent lined up for the cup competition: 1. FCS Tischtennis will be meeting the second league players of Bad Homburg on 29 September.

We are looking forward to exciting, varied table tennis performances by 1. FC Saarbrücken Tischtennis at their home game on Friday, and wish the team much luck and success for the upcoming season.
