Fantastic floodlit game in the URSAPHARM Arena

The two strongest teams in the 2. Bundesliga are meeting today (Friday) in Elversberg. SVE are facing table leaders St. Pauli.

It is no surprise that the Hamburg team are at the top of the table – instead, it is just the next step in the development of a team that has been on a steady upward trajectory since Fabian Hürzeler took over. The floodlit match on Kaiserlinde will be their next big task – as SV Elversberg have also been continually further developing.

‘Our last floodlit game against Braunschweig, where we performed well and played a great game, is still firmly in our memories’, SVE coach Horst Steffen notes. ‘We want to do the same again on Friday evening. However, it is clear that our opponents are on a different scale and therefore have more to offer.’ Six wins, five draws – no defeats. Those are the Hamburg statistics. The challenge could barely be any larger.

‘St. Pauli play a very mature, adaptable game. They are very controlled and well organised throughout a match. As well as the quality that the players individually provide, they also have an exceptionally good team structure’, Horst Steffen warns, but also adds: ‘We are absolutely delighted to have a top game and a top opponent. The stadium will be full, the boys are motivated, and we cannot wait for the match.’ The team will be missing Thore Jacobsen due to his fifth yellow card, as well as Wahid Faghir and long-term injured player Marcel Correia.
