Füchse Berlin start the Bundesliga with an away game

Today (28 August 2023), Füchse Berlin are beginning the new 2023/24 LIQUI MOLY HBL season against SC DHfK Leipzig Handball. Following the launch of the federal handball league on Thursday and the weekend games, the Berlin team is playing a derby in Saxony for the first Monday game of the league, which has now introduced a new match day format. Fans’ long wait will come to an end at 7 p.m when the whistle blows at the QUARTERBACK IMMOBILIEN ARENA in Leipzig.

Undefeated during preparations

After four weeks of preparation and a final rehearsal in the form of a draw against league competitors MT Melsungen (18 August), the capital city’s club is heading into the new season undefeated (nine wins and one draw). Coach Jaron Siewert considers the team to be well equipped for the season start: ‘We have played impressive preparatory games, demonstrated good ball flow and operated with good pace. The core of the team has been playing together for years and are familiar with each other’s moves on the floor. We can go into our game with plenty of confidence.’

As well as Valter Chrintz and Paul Drux who have long-term injuries, goalkeeper Kireev is also out with an injured hand. He will be replaced by Serbian player Dejan Milosavljev. The rest of the squad remains available to the 29-year-old coach. The team also includes the two new arrivals Hakun West Av Teigum (Skanderborg Aarhus Handbold) and Jerry Tollbring (GOG), who has past Bundesliga experience with the Rhein-Neckar Löwen from 2017 to 2021.

Füchse can travel to Leipzig with the wind in their sails. As well as strong preparations, a look at the statistics offers some courage: the total numbers speak volumes, with fourteen wins to four for the Berlin team. Jaron Siewert’s team also won both of their encounters last season (31:26, 28:22). We would like to wish Füchse Berlin a good beginning to the ‘hardest league in the world’ and all the best for the 2023/24 season in the Handball-Bundesliga.
