Kept to zero – SVE satisfied with a point

SV Elversberg fought their way to a point in a chequered match against 1. FC Magdeburg. This keeps them six points above the relegation zone.

This was not a particularly exciting watch for the spectators in the URSAPHARM arena, with Elversberg and Magdeburg reaching a 0:0 draw. The two teams have had a difficult few weeks, with plenty of goals conceded and defeats suffered. Both were therefore more concerned about conceding goals than about scoring them. The two coaches also made this clear after the game.

Horst Steffen was particularly satisfied with the goalless scoreline: ‘We could have played better at a few points in the first half. We let very little through until the 60th minute. After that it was a very open game. Both teams had a few gaps, and it felt like we could have landed a lucky punch. Keeping the score at zero was important for us, so this result feels good.’ Taking a closer look at how the game progressed, this view is very understandable: Magdeburg had some good chances in the second half, but SVE goalkeeper Nicolas Kristof managed several strong saves. SVE also got dangerously close to a goal – but Magdeburg conceded nothing. Given the two teams’ recent weeks, everyone appeared essentially satisfied with the 0:0 draw.
