Madness at Millerntor – SVE astonishes the league

SV Elversberg were responsible for FC St. Pauli’s first home defeat of the season with a crazy match that ended in a 4:3 win. The win was thoroughly well deserved.

It was an incredible performance: SV Elversberg put on a bold show right from the start and foiled the league’s top defence time and time and again – all that was missing was a goal. Even 0:1 after a set piece and 1:2 from match play did not throw coach Horst Steffen off track. Right after the shock, SVE equalised and turned the game around to reach 3:2 and then 4:2 within two minutes – then from Elversberg’s perspective, 4:3 was merely cosmetic. ‘I am delighted with the win and with how we played. We had to defend a lot, but also had some good switchover moments that we put to good use. At a point where things were not going so well, the boys just kept on playing their game, and the teammates who came on showed what they could do immediately to bring us to 2:2. This boosted the belief that we could get something out of this match, and I am very pleased with how my boys performed’, a visibly proud Horst Steffen noted after the game. Fabian Hürzeler, FC St. Pauli’s head coach, could only offer his compliments afterwards: ‘congratulations on the well-earned win’.
