New attempt

TWO PROMOTED TEAMS, THE SAME START, THE SAME PROBLEMS – AND THE SAME GOAL. SV ELVERSBERG ARE LOOKING FOR THEIR FIRST THREE POINTER IN OSNABRÜCK.

Elversberg is a very strong team that plays a comprehensive game, just as they did last year in the third division. They are fast sprinters, but like us did not enjoy an ideal start. I would say that in the end, it could be a battle of attrition. Ultimately, however, we will do all we can to bring home our first three points on Sunday’, as VfL Osnabrück midfielder Dave Gnaase explained before the game. He could be right about the battle of attrition, as both teams have faced similar issues: like SVE, VfL only managed to gain a single point against SC Paderborn in their initial matches, despite otherwise performing equally well and simply being unlucky – similar to SVE. One exception was 0:5 in their last match against Fortuna Düsseldorf. However, Horst Steffen and his team have already processed this and are looking to the future.

‘The team had a lesson to learn. Düsseldorf had a lot to do with the defeat, but our performance also contributed. The team knows this, and now want to put their best foot forward in Osnabrück’, Horst Steffen notes. The coach will have to do without Robin Fellhauer, Kevin Koffi and Marcel Correia on Sunday due to injury, but as it currently stands all other players are ready for action.

Tobias Schweinsteiger, VfL coach, before the match: ‘Elversberg has had a very similar start to the season to us. They are a little more well-oiled than us. You can see that there is less upheaval in the team. Nevertheless, they are being punished harshly in the 2. Bundesliga, failing to close out their games, and thus have only gained a single point – although they deserve more based on their performance alone.’ Time for a good performance and a well-deserved three points! Go SVE!
