SVE celebrates staying in the league – rounding off a fantastic season

SV Elversberg enjoyed a well-deserved 4:2 win over Hertha BSC and celebrated with a big party. Horst Steffen was particularly satisfied with how the team secured their place in the league.

Goals by Luca Schnellbacher with a double, Paul Wanner and Kevin Koffi ensured an enthusiastic afternoon at the URSAPHARM arena. In a game with plenty of back and forth, SVE were never left flustered by conceding goals, but instead continued their offensive, bold play that ultimately paid off. Horst Steffen was delighted after the match, not just about the game itself but also about staying in the league and how they managed to secure it:

It was a good game. Scoring four goals against Hertha is strong. So I am very happy. We had to deal with an equaliser twice, but we fought back each time. The boys deserve their win. I am very proud to have secured our place in the league right now. Of course, we had games I was not happy with, but overall I am very pleased with how we managed to secure our place to stay in the league.

However, the coach was not overly euphoric after the game, instead looking to the future: ‘The team has had setbacks and continued to play on, which ultimately paid off. That makes this a very pleasing performance in which everyone played their part. We want to improve our home record and give something back to our fans – including on our final day of play at home against Karlsruhe. But first we are heading to Nuremberg.’
