SVE facing next challenge

Normally, you would say that defeats are something to analyse then put behind you – but the 0:5 loss to Eintracht Braunschweig will linger in people’s minds for a while longer. ‘The game against Braunschweig has already left its mark’, Horst Steffen says looking back. ‘We need to take a good look at ourselves, we were not good. And we absolutely want to put in a better performance against Magdeburg.’ Magdeburg are the perfect team for this, aren’t they? The situations are similar, as the Magdeburg players have also had to deal with some difficult results in recent weeks. ‘Their situation is not unlike ours’, Horst Steffen notes.

However, as Magdeburg have an experienced coach and team, Horst Steffen is anticipating a somewhat stricken but nevertheless dangerous opponent: ‘Coach Christian Titz has been there for a long time. His style of play has worked well for long periods, although less so recently’. Horst Steffen adds: ‘Magdeburg have the most ball possession in the league, which highlight’s the team’s quality of football and means that we will definitely have to defend a lot once again, close gaps and get involved in duels to win the ball and bring good moves forward.’ A good result would also be vital for their table standings: a win would keep Magdeburg at a distance, but a loss could start to make things difficult again.

The team is unlikely to change, as players with long-term injuries are still out of action.
