SVE fail to win points at Baumgart’s debut

SV Elversberg lost 0:1 to Hamburger SV. There is more to this than the score shows, although Horst Steffen’s team did not put in a top performance.

The new coach of Hamburger SV was able to applaud his team after their 1:0 win, but viewed SV Elversberg as definite equals: ‘Games like this go back and forth. Nevertheless, it has to be said that we had enough goal opportunities to close out the game. We were no better than Elversberg, instead I would say it was a game of equals where both sides gave their all.’

Despite a well-balanced fight, Horst Steffen sounded a little less satisfied: ‘I have mixed feelings, to be honest. I viewed us as equals, but we also made a lot of easy mistakes that created opportunities for HSV. So to be honest, I am not entirely happy with my team’s performance.’ He would have liked a late equaliser: ‘But in the end, that would probably have been too much of a good thing’, the SVE coach added. HSV’s first win in their first game under Baumgart puts them within a point of the first direct promotion spot. Promoted team Elversberg were once again equal to a promotion hopeful in an away game and are still in tenth place with 32 points – even if this was not enough for them to gain a point today. Things continue for SVE at the weekend against Wehen Wiesbaden.
