SVE head to Düsseldorf with wind in their sails
After their win against Kaiserslautern, SVE are seeking to consolidate things in Düsseldorf. The goal: points.
SV Elversberg had a painful reminder of how well Fortuna can play at their 0:5 home defeat for the first leg. A fair amount has happened since then: SVE are in the middle chunk of the league in ninth place, whilst Düsseldorf are sitting in fifth, under some pressure to keep pace with the pack.
This training week was also slightly unusual: as head coach Horst Steffen was forced to take a few days’ break due to illness, the rest of the coaching team took over the work in his stead – and co-coach Raphael Duarte held the press conference.
‘We have had some good training sessions and we hope to be able to carry forward the momentum from our last game’, Duarte noted, adding: ‘Nevertheless, you always have to start from scratch. The fact that we won our last game is no guarantee that things will be the same this time around. We know that Fortuna have a very good team.’ Although Fortuna are ‘only’ in fifth place, they nevertheless gave St. Pauli (still unbeaten in the league) their first cup defeat.
