SVE WIN A POINT IN KIEL

SV ELVERSBERG ARE BACK IN SAARLAND AFTER GAINING A LUCKY 1:1 DRAW AND A POINT AGAINST HOLSTEIN KIEL. THEIR UNDEFEATED STREAK CONTINUES.

Marcel Rapp, the Kiel coach, had a lot of respect for SVE before the game – and even more after. ‘We just had to score two or three goals in the first half, then we would be going home as the winners. That’s why there is a bit of disappointment now. But we were facing a very strong opponent who demanded a lot from us, and ultimately even had an opportunity to claim a win – we know what that means.’

And to summarise SVE’s play: weak early stage, strong second half and a touch of luck. Coach Horst Steffen said of his team’s first twenty minutes of flawed play: ‘In previous games, we have managed to play our way out of opposition pressure. Kiel did very well in the run-up today, something that is rarely seen in this league. We were not clear enough and then made too many mistakes.’ But Luca Schnellbacher then equalised in his own very special way. ‘Luca and how he scores his goals is truly special. He has already done some good work for us in the past, and today he did it again, controlling the long ball well and then spotting that the goalkeeper was too far forward. That was the special moment we needed to take a point home.’

Ultimately it could even have been a win. Their next pairing is against Eintracht Braunschweig the weekend after next.
