THE HYLO® SPORTS TEAM WISHES YOU A GOOD START INTO THE NEW YEAR! OUR YEAR IN REVIEW 2022

The New Year is still young, and we are excited about the sporting highlights it will offer us. Our athletes definitely have their sights firmly set on their goals – and we look forward to accompanying them along the way.

We were also at their side last year and were able to celebrate many successes together. For example, the historic moment when the DTB gymnasts were only beaten by Italy and Great Britain in the team final of the European Championships in Munich: Kim Bui and Elisabeth Seitz from Stuttgart, Emma Malewski and Pauline Schäfer-Betz from Chemnitz and Sarah Voss from Cologne won bronze at the European Championships. In addition, Elisabeth Seitz and Emma Malewski won gold medals on uneven bars and balance beam. Nils Dunkel was also able to celebrate: he won his first European Championship medal in Munich and was delighted with his bronze medal on pommel horse.

Isabel Lohau from the 1st Badminton Club Saarbrücken-Bischmisheim also had a successful year. She and her partner Mark Lamsfuss won gold in the mixed event at the European Badminton Championships in Madrid. And the Badminton Bundesliga team 1st BC Saarbrücken-Bischmisheim also delivered a fast-paced chase against its rivals – and was finally rewarded with the title of German runner-up. And there were even more great sporting moments to be experienced at the HYLO® Badminton Open. In 2022, this successful sporting event not only attracted numerous spectators to the Saarlandhalle in Saarbrücken with big international names, but also generated a great deal of interest worldwide thanks to live stream broadcasting.

There was also plenty of reason to celebrate in motorsport last year, as we were able to join Porsche in celebrating their first ever DTM triumph. Under the guidance of Porsche brand ambassador Timo Bernhard and with works driver Thomas Preining at the wheel, KÜS Team Bernhard was able to take victory for the first time – an absolutely historic moment. This great success means that the Porsche 911 GT3 R will almost certainly be placed on display in the Porsche Museum.

Triathlete Svenja Thoes was even able to celebrate several successes in 2022. Not only did Svenja, who is from the Saarland, win the Ironman Italy and Ironman Nice titles in France, she also beat her pursuers at Ironman Ireland – albeit belatedly. After her victory at Ironman Ireland in Cork in August 2022, she was initially disqualified after the race for unauthorised outside assistance, but subsequently overturned this decision on appeal and ultimately clinched the case for herself. Valentin Wernz from HYLO® Team Saar was also successful. He won the Super Sprint at the European Triathlon Championships in Poland and won the individual classification of the 2022 season of the 1st Bitburger 0.0% Triathlon National League. The HYLO® Team Saar secured the title of German Runner-up for 2022 in the overall standings.

Last year was an absolute highlight for SV Elversberg. They made it into the 3rd Division after just 35 match days with only four defeats – and have been impressive all along the line ever since. This makes SVE the best promoted team of all time and they also rounded off their fantastic football year by winning the Saar Team of the Year 2022 award.

2022 was also the year of the first Saar Darts Gala. Gabriel Clemens secured a home victory in the Saarlandhalle in Saarbrücken in front of around 3000 spectators. While the tournament was all about having fun, the World Championships at Alexandra Palace in London at the end of the year were all about the bottom line: Here the “German Giant” celebrated an absolutely historic entry into the semi-finals as the first German darts professional, during which he was, however, defeated by the later World Champion “Bully Boy” Smith.

The HYLO® Sports Team is ready for a sporting 2023 and wishes the athletes every success!
