The Saarlouis Hornets invite you! International baseball highlight in Saarlouis

After 17 years away, elite international baseball is returning to Saarlouis! On 18 and 19 May 2024, the German and French national teams will be facing off in two friendly games at the Saarlouis Hornets ball park.

There are few better settings than Saarland, and especially the city of Saarlouis with its French flair, for this prestigious meeting between neighbouring countries. These two elite European teams last met at the 2023 European Championship quarter finals, when Germany just edged a 6:5 win. Excitement and top-quality baseball are guaranteed from both teams.

This international series is definitely a highlight for all inveterate baseball fans, as well as a perfect opportunity for baseball newcomers and enthusiasts to experience the American sport played at the highest level.

As well as entertaining games and culinary delights available from the food court, the baseball itself will of course be a spectacle in its own right. On this Whitsun weekend, the Hornets are offering an exciting fanfest programme on both days alongside the international baseball games.

For anyone wanting to try baseball for themselves, the Hornets have built inflatable batting and throwing bowls with radar guns. On Saturday, visitors will be able to test their bull riding skills on a mechanical bull.

One major highlight for visitors will be the after-game party on Saturday, celebrating into the early hours with country and outlaw music from the Steve Morgen Band. Cult-favourite Kalinski sausages and a drinks cart will of course still be available after the game!

Spectators will have a perfect view of the game from the main stand. Alternatively, the match can be followed from one of the smaller stands, the beer garden, or the lawn.

The first pitch will be thrown at 3 p.m. on Saturday and 12 p.m. on Sunday, with gates opening two hours before the game starts. Tickets can be bought in advance online or at the gate. For those unable to come along in person, the Hornets will be streaming the game live.

1. FC Saarbrücken Tischtennis and the Saarlouis Hornets have also come up with another special event for Saarland’s sports fans – the baseball entry tickets also offer fans free entry to FCS Tischtennis’s table tennis playoff game against Werder Bremen on 26 May at the Joachim-Deckarm-Halle in Saarbrücken.

So join us at a classic international baseball match in the ball park, then a week later to see 1. FCS Tischtennis battle for the German championships.
