The streak continues – very efficient performance by SVE in Magdeburg

The promoted team beat the Elbe city team 2:1 (2:0) in the 2. Fußball-Bundesliga and remain undefeated in their seventh game.

Elversberg’s coach Horst Steffen was very satisfied after last Sunday’s game thanks to a good, efficient performance: ‘We kept trying to counter-attack. It was harder for us to defend during the second half. All in all I am happy with three points, which we are ultimately slightly lucky to have.’

The Elversberg players properly exasperated the Magdeburg team: although FCM had more ball possession, good defence play from SVE and a few bad passes prevented them from really getting started. It was Jannick Rochelt and Maurice Neubauer who ensured a 2:0 lead by half time. Two Magdeburg players even received the maximum penalty: Luca Schuler and captain Condé were substituted in the 34th minute.

‘Unfortunately, it was a single mistake that allowed our opponents to take the lead’, the Magdeburg coach Christian Titz explained after the match. Titz spoke plainly about the substitution of Schuler and captain Condé: ‘We simply weren’t doing what we wanted at the centre of attack today – so it was a clear decision.’

Although FCM fared better in the second half and gained a catch-up goal scored by Connor Krempicki, ultimately the score stood at 2:1 with a well-earned away win for SVE.

On Friday, SV Elversberg will be taking this momentum forward into a home game against FC St. Pauli – a floodlit match between two top teams.
