UNSTOPPABLE DESPITE SNOW: SVE STILL ON COURSE FOR PROMOTION

First there were the snowflakes, then later the goals – that’s how you could describe SV Elversberg’s match against FC Ingolstadt last Saturday.

After a lot of snow had fallen on the football pitch of the URSAPHARM Arena the night before, a lot of shovelling had to be done before the game could kick off. The fact that this was even achieved on time was due in part to the great commitment of the fan community: On its Facebook page, SV Elversberg had called on its fans to come to the stadium with shovels to help clear the snow. The fans immediately responded to the call.

Despite icy weather conditions, around 5,000 fans made their way to the stadium, where they were rewarded with an exciting, action-packed and goal-filled match. Four goals were scored in the first half: Luca Schnellbacher gave SV Elversberg the lead in the 17th minute. Two minutes later, Nick Woltemade was fouled by Calvin Brackelmann – the referee gave a penalty, which Thore Jacobsen converted in the 22nd minute to make it 2:0. In the 25th minute, Thore Jacobsen unexpectedly and suddenly made it 3:0 for Elversberg.

Towards the end of the first half, FC Ingolstadt then pulled themselves together and managed to score a goal in the 41st minute. After the break, obviously well recovered, Ingolstadt successfully added to their tally in the 52nd minute and reduced the score to 3:2. Elversberg held on with motivation, at least until Lukas Pinckert was shown a yellow card and had to leave the pitch. Nick Woltemade nevertheless kept up the pressure on goal, but Ingolstadt’s Brackelmann tried to stop him – thus giving the Elv another penalty and causing a sending-off for Brackelmann on the opposing team. The following penalty was converted by Jacobsen to make it 4:2. In the 88th minute an offside followed for FC Ingolstadt, then in the 90th minute Moussa Doumbouya added another, final goal for the final score: 4:3 for the hosts.

We congratulate our Elv on this exciting game – and of course on the continuous extension of their lead at the top of the table. Keep it up!
