What’s new from the HYLO® Sports family

What have the #hyloathletes been up to in the last few days? We take a look back at the events and competitions featuring our athletes, teams and clubs over the past week.

SVE gains point to kick of the second half of the season

On Saturday (20 January 2024), SV Elversberg relaunched their 2. Bundesliga mission for the second half of the season with an identical result, 2:2 against Hannover 96. In the first game of the new year, the team under coach Horst Steffen showed their customary lightness and enthusiasm in the URSAPHARM arena on Kaiserlinde (especially during the second half of the game) and earned another point against a strong team from Lower Saxony to add to the promoted team’s total. More details in our post-match report.

This puts the Saarland team level pegging on points with the Hanover players at tenth place in the 2. Bundesliga. This Saturday (27 January), SV Elversberg face Hansa Rostock at the Ostseestadion.

Redeeming home win for the proWIN Volleys

After an extended dry spell and various unfortunate defeats, on Sunday (21 January 2024) the proWIN Volleys TV Holz were able to celebrate a sleek 3:0 home win (25:23, 25:16, 29:27) against the volleyball players of DJK Sportbund München-Ost in the 2. Volleyball Bundesliga Süd. The third, deciding set of the match was particularly hard to beat in terms of tension, and ultimately went to the Holz volleyball players after plenty of back and forth and several set points being defended. The duel thus gained the Saarland players vital points in their battle to remain in the league. The Volleys currently occupy eleventh place in the table.
This long-awaited home victory was even more welcome given that the team had to manage without several players: Alice Turmovich and Stella Nalbach were still missing due to injury, as was Nadin Murad, who dislocated her thumb during the previous week’s game against SV Lohhof. Mira Weber and Katharina von Oetinger were also unavailable.

However, the vocal support from the home crowd in the Multifunktionshalle on Sportcampus Saar in Saarbrücken and a cohesive team performance ensured that the effort put in by the TV Holz volleyball players in recent weeks paid off, securing them maximum points.

The #proWINNER players are travelling again next weekend: they are playing away against SV Karlsruhe-Beiertheim on Saturday (27 January) at 7:30 p.m.

Saarlouis Royals return home from Hanover without points

On Saturday (20 January 2024), the basketball players of the Saarlouis Royals travelled to face third-placed team TK Hannover Luchse for the sixteenth day of play in the Damen-Basketball-Bundesliga. As in the first home leg, the Saarland club had no chance against the Lower Saxony players and lost the game 72:63 (Q1: 14:18, Q2: 22:15, Q3: 21:13, Q4: 15:17).

This meant that the Saarlouis basketball players were unable to achieve the turnaround they had hoped for after the final defeat of their previous multi-match week, and had to return home without any points. The Royals are currently eighth in the table alongside BC Pharmaserv Marburg, which would put them in the playoffs. Their next home game is on Sunday (28 January) at 3 p.m. against Wings Leverkusen in the Stadtgartenhalle in Saarlouis.

We are looking forward to upcoming appearances from our #hyloathletes and wish all of our HYLO® partners much luck and success.
