The German Gymnastics Team at the World Championships in Antwerp – Olympic qualification for the men’s team

The World Artistic Gymnastics Championships are currently taking place in Antwerp, Belgium. From 30 September to 8 October 2023, the national elite of the German Gymnastics Federation will compete with the best athletes in the world. Moreover, qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris is also at stake.

The German men’s gymnastics team has already secured its ticket for Paris. Valeri Belenki’s team achieved a strong fifth place in the team qualifiers on Saturday and Sunday, which not only qualifies them for the Olympics but also means participation in the World Cup team final on Tuesday. In addition to this, Lukas Dauser and Nils Dunkel reached three individual finals. Lukas will compete in the all-around as well as the parallel bars final (as best on points) and Nils will fight for World Championship medals in the pommel horse final.

Qualification for the women’s gymnastics team starts on Monday and the final competitions begin on Tuesday. You can follow the other highlights of the World Cup via our social media channels (Instagram and Facebook )

Füchse Berlin win confidently and remain unbeaten

In their third home match of the season, Füchse did not show any weakness on Sunday (01.10.2023) and deservedly beat the promoted ThSV Eisenach 37:29 (20:13) in the sold-out Max-Schmeling-Halle (9,000 spectators). The Scandinavian trio of Mathias Gidsel (9), Lasse Andersson (8) and Hans Lindberg (7/1) were particularly brilliant. With their seventh win in a row, the Berliners remain level on points with MT Melsungen at the top of the table.

Another pleasing side note from the game: In the 59th minute, Max Günther, a home-grown player in this debut game in the LIQUI MOLY HBL, scored from 7 metres to make it 37:28. With the debutant, Tim Freihöfer, Matthes Langhoff, Nils Lichtlein, Max Beneke and Keno Jacobs, six players from our own academy were on the pitch in the closing seconds – historic!

After yesterday’s Bundesliga match against Eisenach, the Füchse are putting all their focus on HC Erlangen. The duel in the round of 16 of the DHB Cup is scheduled for Tuesday (3.10., 4.30 pm), and only four days later both teams will meet in the league (Saturday, 7.10.,5.30 pm).

1st FC Saarbrücken Table Tennis still in the Cup and undefeated in the TTBL

On Friday evening (29 October 2023) the 1st FC Saarbrücken Table Tennis took a convincing place in the quarter-finals of the German Cup 2023/2024. The reigning Champions League winners won by a clear 3-0 margin against second-division team TTC OE Bad Homburg.

Thanks to two individual victories by Darko Jorgić and another win by Cedric Meissner, the 1st FCS Table Tennis team won their second home match of the season in the German Table Tennis League (TTBL) on Sunday (01.10.2023) against Post SV Mühlhausen. This means that they remain unbeaten after the fifth match day with long-time rivals Borussia Düsseldorf at the top of the table.

For the Saarbrücken team, the Bundesliga continues on 16 October with the seventh match of the season.

Saarlouis Royals start Bundesliga season with a loss

On Saturday evening (30 October 2023), the Saarlouis Royals started the new season 2023/24 of the1st division of the Bundesliga for women’s basketball. It was a game full of twists and turns! The Royals fought back impressively after a half-time score of 17:30 for the Berliners. In the last quarter, they even managed to switch the lead, but the guests kept their nerve. Despite a strong performance by the Saarlouis women’s basketball team, the victory went to the Berliners.

The next league game for the Royals and the chance to “fix the start” is already on the horizon. On German Unification Day (3.10.), the women’s basketball team from the Saarland will face the Eisvögel USC Freiburg in an away game.

proWIN Volleys with home defeat

Unfortunately, the women’s volleyball team of TV Holz e.V. were unable to win anything against the women of SV Karlsruhe-Beiertheim at their home match in the multifunctional hall at the Herrmann-Neuberger-Sportschule in Saarbrücken on Saturday evening (30 September 2023). In the second home match of the relatively new season in the 2nd division of the Women’s Volleyball Bundesliga, the proWIN Volleys were unable to continue their strong performance from the first set they won, so in the end they were defeated 3:1. The next opportunity for the young team to do better will be at the away game on 14 October at TV Planegg-Kraillingen.

Gabriel Clemens back from the Players Championships and on to the World Grand Prix 2023

Barnsley, in England, hosted three more Pro Tour tournaments in the Players Championship Series from Wednesday, 27 September to Friday, 29 September 2023. Things didn’t go quite right for Saarland darts pro Gabriel Clemens over the three days.

On the first day, the German number one started the tournament with a stunning 6:1 win over James Wilson, but in round two he lost 6:2 to Ian White. On Thursday, a compatriot stopped the German Giant already in the second round. Pascal Rupprecht prevailed against Clemens with a 6:2 score. Before that GAGA managed a whitewash against Alan Soutar. On the third day of the Players Championships, it was already the end of the line for the German No. 1 in the first round. In his first duel on Friday Gabriel Clemens was defeated 4:6 by Mervyn King.

The World Grand Prix 2023 in Leicester offers the German Giant the next opportunity to compete in a major tournament. The World Grand Prix sees darts’ biggest stars compete in a very special tournament. It is the only Major tournament of the PDC that is played in “double-in-double-out” mode. In what is known as DIDO, players must both start and finish the leg with a double. Right at the start Gabriel Clemens will meet the former World Champion Peter Wright on Tuesday (3 October 2023) from about 10 pm.
