Golden finish for the German gymnastics team at World Championships in Antwerp

Lukas Dauser provided the crowning glory on Sunday (8 October 2023), the final day of the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Antwerp. We would like to congratulate Lucas on his gold medal for the parallel bars. (Add link to ‘Congratulations to Dauser’ news article here) Just one day earlier, Nils Dunkel finished seventh in the pommel horse finals. Pauline Schäfer-Betz came eighth in the finals for the balance beam.

In the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships all-around finals, the two German competitors Sarah Voss and Pauline Schäfer-Betz took 22nd and 24th place on the Friday evening (6 October). At 16th in the men’s all-around finals, Lukas Dauser also achieved the best result for the DTB men’s team at the Sportpalais in Antwerp, securing the team a ticket to the Olympics.

With a virtually flawless competition, on the Monday evening (2 October 2023) the female German gymnasts achieved 157.128 points in the team rankings at the World Championships. Nevertheless, the German gymnastics team sadly narrowly missed out on qualifying for the Olympics. Ultimately, they were only just over a tenth of a point away from the sought-after twelfth place and participation in next year’s Olympic Games in Paris.

Saarlouis Royals suffer narrow defeat against Herne

On the third day of play in the women’s basketball Bundesliga, the Saarlouis Royals met Herner TC in front of some 300 spectators at their home stadium Stadtgartenhalle. The Royals finished the first quarter lagging behind 17:26. However, in the second quarter they found their rhythm and fought back to a half-time result of 41:43. After half time, their play once again contained too many errors and lapses in concentration, whilst Herne were able to win through. The Royals initially regained some ground in the final quarter, but Herne held out and ultimately took the points home to Ruhr with a close end result of 71:75.

The next home game for the Royals will be against TK HANNOVER LUCHSE, on 22 October in the Saarlouis Stadtgartenhalle.

Team BIKE AID out and about in Turkey

From Sunday 8 to 15 October 2023, Team BIKE AID are back on the starting line of the Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey. After last year’s successful race, the team is back and has already shown with Léo Bouvier that they are here to do more than just make up the numbers!

The first stage began in Anlanya and ended in Antalya. In a fast mass sprint against such names as Jasper Philipsen, Léo was able to finish in tenth place despite being delayed by a fall on the final bend! A fantastic start for the French rider and the team, with good prospects for the next seven stages.
